🥋 Why Our Taekwondo School Partners with PTOs

Character Education, Community, and Real Support for Parents and Schools — why we partner with local PTOs on a 100% donation basis.

Character Education, Community, and Real Support for Parents and Schools

Many parents today are looking for more than just an activity to fill their child's schedule. They want something meaningful—something that helps their child grow in discipline, respect, confidence, and focus.

At Middleton U.S. Taekwondo, we believe character isn't built in one place. It grows when home, school, and the community work together. This is the reason we partner with local PTOs—not simply to offer classes, but to support families and schools in raising strong, respectful, and resilient children.

🎯 Our Purpose: Education Beyond the Classroom

We don't see Taekwondo as just a sport. We see it as character education.

Research shows that extracurricular activities with structure and clear values can improve children's behavior, emotional control, and resilience (Larson & Verma, 1999). Taekwondo is especially powerful because it teaches self-control, respect, patience, and perseverance through physical training and moral discipline.

  • Lakes & Hoyt (2004) found that children who practiced martial arts showed greater focus, emotional regulation, and classroom behavior than those who did not.
  • Vertonghen & Theeboom (2010) concluded that martial arts, when taught with discipline and respect, can improve self-regulation and social responsibility.
  • Trulson (1986) even observed reduced aggression and improved self-esteem in at-risk youth through structured Taekwondo training.

So our purpose is clear: to provide real-life character education in a place where movement, discipline, and values meet.

🤝 Why We Partner with PTOs

We collaborate with PTOs because parents, schools, and children all benefit when we work together.

  • Students — Learn respect, self-control, confidence, focus, teamwork, and gratitude.
  • Parents — Affordable, meaningful after-school program that supports discipline and reduces screen time.
  • Schools & PTOs — 100% donation-based — all registration fees go back to the school to support fundraising.
  • Community — Stronger connection between school, family, and local businesses.

Our programs are not about recruiting new members. Even if a child never joins our dojang full-time, if they learn how to bow, say "thank you," control their emotions, or try again after failing—that is success.

💡 How the Program Works

  • ✔ Affordable (typically $30–$40 per student)
  • 100% of all registration fees are donated to the school or PTO
  • ✔ Held inside the school gym or at our dojang — no uniforms required

Students learn:

  • How to focus and listen the first time
  • Basic kicks and blocks
  • Teamwork and encouragement instead of competition
  • Respect — bowing, greeting adults, saying "thank you"
  • Perseverance — our motto: "Fall 7 times, get up 8"

The program culminates in a graduation where parents and teachers witness their progress.

🌟 Real Moments That Matter

These are small, but powerful things we see every week:

  • Students lining up after class to bow and say, "Thank you for having us, Principal!"
  • A shy child who wouldn't speak above a whisper now leads warm-ups in front of the class
  • A parent telling us, "My child now makes their bed and said, 'Because discipline means doing it even if I don't feel like it.'"

These moments align with what research calls internalized character habits—values that stay with a child long after the program ends.

🧭 This Is Not Marketing — This Is Our Mission

We partner with PTOs because:

  • Parents shouldn't raise children alone — they deserve a village
  • Schools deserve community partners who invest in character, not just academics
  • Children deserve role models not only at home, but also in their school and community

Even if a child never steps back into our dojang, if they walk away with more respect, discipline, and courage — then we have fulfilled our purpose.

🚀 Looking Ahead

Our vision is to continue partnering with more local schools in Middleton, Boxford, St. John's, North Andover, Franklin, and beyond.

We hope to grow not just as a Taekwondo school, but as a Character Education Partner—supporting families, empowering schools, and strengthening community values.
