🥋 How Our After-School Taekwondo Program Strengthens Children—and Our Community
We partnered with a local elementary school for a 4-week after-school program — and the impact on students, teachers, and families was truly meaningful.
Parents today want more than an activity for their children. They want growth, confidence, respect, and a program that truly understands how kids learn.
At Middleton U.S. Taekwondo, our mission is not only to teach martial arts but to bring those life-skills into the schools and communities we serve. Recently, we partnered with a local elementary school to run a 4-week After-School Taekwondo Program, and the impact on students, teachers, and families was truly meaningful.
This post shares what children experienced, how the program supports whole-child development, and why more schools are requesting it each year.
🏫 A School Day Transformed: Kids Learning With Purpose
When we first stepped into the school gym, students greeted us with bright eyes and curiosity:
- "Is today Taekwondo day?"
- "Are we learning kicking?"
- "My mom said I need to practice self-control!"
Some students were energetic and ready to move. Others were shy, reserved, or new to group activities.
But within minutes, something beautiful happened:
Children stood tall. They listened with intention. They moved with purpose.
Taekwondo quickly became a space where every child—regardless of personality or ability—could participate, grow, and succeed.
🌟 What Parents Care About Most: Real Skills for Real Life
During the 4-week program, students learned:
- Self-control in both movement and emotion
- Listening skills that build classroom success
- Teamwork and encouragement
- Confidence through small, achievable challenges
- Basic self-defense principles for awareness and safety
Parents often ask:
"Does Taekwondo help with discipline?" "Will it help my child with focus and confidence?"
The answer—seen clearly through this program—is yes.
Even after just a few classes, parents shared comments like:
- "My child is stretching and practicing before bed."
- "He's more willing to try—even when he's unsure."
- "She said school feels more fun on Taekwondo days."
One student said:
"I still get nervous when I speak in class, but now I feel like I can try."
Growth like this is why we bring Taekwondo directly into schools.
🤝 Why We Partner With Schools: Community First
Our After-School Taekwondo Program is not just an extra activity. It is a community partnership designed to support:
- School culture
- Student behavior
- Parent engagement
- Character education
- Physical health and confidence
A portion of the program proceeds is always returned to the school, helping support PTO/PAC initiatives, student experiences, and academic programs.
Our goal is simple:
Give students a powerful learning experience while giving back to the community that trusts us with their children.
📜 Principal Valerie Shippen's Official Testimonial
We are honored to share the words of Principal Valerie Shippen from Saint John the Baptist School in Peabody, MA, who experienced our program firsthand:
"Middleton U.S. Taekwondo offers an after school program to our students. Our First and Second graders experience class together, and our Third and Fourth graders have another day of class. The students who enrolled had an awesome experience: Master Han teaches self-control, listening skills, teamwork and self-defense. Students who have experienced his class cannot wait until the school returns to take it again. Master Han is patient, encouraging and handles every student with respect and dignity. We love it when Middleton U.S. Taekwondo visits our school!" — Valerie Shippen, Principal, Saint John the Baptist School, Peabody
This testimonial reflects what we value most—respect, dignity, positive teaching, and long-term relationships with schools and families.
🌱 When Schools, Parents, and Taekwondo Work Together, Children Thrive
This program succeeded because of collaboration:
- Administrators supported the vision
- Teachers welcomed us into their space
- Parents trusted us with their children
- And students showed courage, curiosity, and heart
Taekwondo becomes truly powerful when home, school, and dojang all work toward the same goal: raising children who are confident, disciplined, and resilient.
🥋 Our Ongoing Commitment to Families and the Community
Middleton U.S. Taekwondo will continue to:
- Partner with more schools
- Offer accessible, meaningful after-school programs
- Support PTO/PAC initiatives
- Provide parents with a trusted source of character-based martial arts education
- Teach children to "fall 7 times, get up 8" in every area of life
Our vision is simple:
Build stronger kids. Build stronger families. Build a stronger community—together.
